Embracing the New Year: Navigating Emotions and Finding Joy

Posted on 0 comment

Entering the new year can sometimes feel like being served different platters of emotions.

There are moments of grief mixed with gratitude, as we silently acknowledge the passing of time filled with lessons learned and moments gained. We may also carry pain and anger that the stroke of midnight does not magically erase. However, it can provide us with a window for reflection and the opportunity to honor all of our feelings. We can ask ourselves what fills our cups and what we want to let go of, creating space for more magic to unfold.

Perhaps, we can even try orientating to joy. In a world where there is so much suffering, orientating to joy may seem challenging or even make us feel guilty. However, all our emotions, including joy and anger, are valid. Orientating to joy does not mean becoming less empathetic or ignoring the pain of others or from within. It is not a zero-sum game. When we orientate to joy and nourish ourselves, it allows us to give from a place of abundance and helps us persevere through difficult times.

Here are three questions to help you:

  1. What self-care activities worked for me in the past?
  2. What self-care activities can I implement right now?
  3. Where would I like my health to be?

If you are in need of support, we are here to help regulate your nervous system and guide you back to a sense of ease. Our community clinic and sliding scale is also available to help you access the care you need.
